RMR Women Shine at Women’s Four Miler

Rachel Ward, Sallie Ford, Melissa Rittenhouse, and Amy Martin toed the line as a team in Central Virginia’s largest footrace and fundraiser, the Women’s Four Miler. Ward took off from the gun and never looked back, running 21:39 over the rolling out and back course. Her time broke Suzanne Girard’s 30-year old course record by 11 seconds and her own previous best by 36 seconds.

Feeding off Ward’s energy were her teammates who also had great performances on the roads. Ford battled with Emily Potter for much of the race before pulling away and finishing third in a time of 22:48. Ford bested her previous record for the course by 13 seconds, dipping under 23 minutes for the first time. Rittenhouse and Martin were among a huge pack of seven women that all finished within nine seconds of each other. Out of the seven, Rittenhouse was the first to cross the line in a time of 24:48 for 5th place. Martin, who was sick most of the week, gutted it out and finished strong for the team, running 24:56 for 10th place.

The women took home the team title despite tough competition from another local women’s team. For more on the race and the cause behind the race, check out the article linked below written by Mark Lorenzoni. Results are also posted below.
