Sean Keveren flew out to Portland, Oregon to compete in the highly competitive Portland Track Festival. The 5000m race entrants included many elite runners, one of them being double Olympic champion, Mo Farah, competing for the first time since his debut marathon. The weather was perfect for racing, and Keveren took advantage of it. Sean blew away his previous personal best of 13:48 from two years ago by running 13:39.26 for 5th place.
Since May 10th, Keveren has been consistently dropping his 5000m 2014 best, running 14:10, 13:56, 13:50, and now 13:39. The auto standard for the US Championships is 13:32, so his chances of qualifying will be dependent on how many runners USATF decides to take in the 5000m. Nonetheless, the race was a nice breakthrough after two years of injuries and surgeries that hampered Keveren’s progress but not his determination.
