Gabler wins, Jacoby runner-up at Fourth of July Races

For the fifth consecutive year, Lee Gabler competed in his hometown downhill mile, the Montcalm Mile, in Ticonderoga, New York. In previous years, Gabler had finished 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, and 3rd. Coming off of his runner-up finish at the Bruce Barnes Mile about a month before, Gabler was looking to run a little faster and compete for the win in front of his family and friends. After being so close to victory over the previous four years, Gabler finally had his day, breaking the tape in a time of 4:07, one second ahead of second place. Results from the mile can be found below.

Bert Jacoby traveled back to his old stomping grounds to compete in the Heritage Festival 5 Mile in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Like Lee, Jacoby had run this race in previous years, but his streak goes all the way back to 2005. In that time, Jacoby had placed 2nd every year except 2011, where he finished 3rd. Unlike previous years, Bert was a little unsure about his fitness after coming off some injury issues in the winter and spring, though his Men’s Four Miler performance showed he was gaining some of it back, despite a troublesome hamstring. Jacoby got out conservatively, sitting around 10th place early on before slowly moving his way up into third. While Bert was able to surpass second place during the fourth mile, he ran out of real estate and finished runner-up in a time of 27:48. Results can be found below.
