On Friday evening Rachel Ward and Sean Keveren traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia to compete in the Colonial Relays. The weather was far from ideal, in the high 70s and windy. Ward ran the 5000m and battled with a William and Mary duo for much of the race. In the end, Ward finished third in a time of 15:59.19, a ten second improvement from Raleigh Relays last week. Keveren was also coming off of a race at Raleigh Relays and competed in the 5000m. Keveren finished 10th in a time of 14:30.99. Results can be found below.

RMR harriers competed in three different races this past weekend.
Rachel Ward and Sean Keveren traveled down to Raleigh, North Carolina to compete at Raleigh Relays. Conditions were sub-par as rain fell most of the evening. For Ward, it was the first time on a track in two years. That did not intimidate Ward as she led for part of this race. Ward finished 5th in a time of 16:09.65. Keveren ran the 10,000m, the last event on the track on Friday evening. Keveren finished 26th in a time of 30:13.54. Results can be found below.

Back in Charlottesville, Dave Hryvniak and Sarah Breevoort toed the line in the 39th annual Charlottesville Ten Miler. While it did not rain during the event, the rain from the night before left behind wet roads and high humidity. Hryvniak battled with RMR summer intern Greg Jantzen over the first six miles before having calf cramps the second half of the race. Jantzen went on to win the race in a time of 55:07 and Hryvniak finished runner up in a time of 56:16. Breevoort won her age group in a time of 1:09:25. Other RMR contributors that ran were Dana Thiele who was second in her age group and Harry Landers, who was fifth in his age group. Dr. Wilder volunteered at the event, heading up the medical tent at the finish. Thomas Adam, Bert Jacoby, and Charlotte Browning helped out at the corner water stop as well. Results and an article on the race written by Rachel Ward can be found below.

Last but not least, Charlie Hurt and Melissa Rittenhouse competed in nearby Richmond, Virginia in Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k. Unfortunately Hurt experienced a runner’s nightmare prior to the race. Prior to warming up, Hurt put his bag near the start so it would be close by for the start of the race. When he returned, his bag was gone, his flats and jersey included. With no bib number and no racing flats, he was unable to compete. Rittenhouse was able to race and ran 39:28, good enough for 19th place. Results can be found below.

RMR was represented in all three races in Richmond, Virginia this past weekend. Rachel Ward started off the day in the HCA Virginia 8k. Ward competed well and was able to distance herself from two other women to finish second overall in a time of 26:45. Sallie Ford was up next in the American Family Fitness Half Marathon. Early on Ford found a woman she had run with the year before, and they worked together to keep a solid pace throughout the race. Ford negative split the race, starting around 6:15 pace and ending close to 5:40 pace. Sallie finished 7th in a time of 1:18:25, just 10 seconds off her PR from the year before. Dave Hryvniak was the final harrier to start in the Anthem Richmond Marathon. Hryvniak ran the first half conservatively and felt great through 16-17, but unfortunately the wheels came off after. Dave salvaged a solid effort nonetheless, running 2:34:18 for 9th place. Results can be found below.

Sallie Ford and Thomas Adam made the quick trip north to Washington, DC to compete in the Run for the Parks 10k. The course was out and back and very flat. The weather was perfect temperature-wise, but a stiff headwind on the way back made for a difficult second half of the race.
Ford stuck with two other women for the first half of the race, then made her move mile four to pull away from both of them. Ford ended up breaking the tape in a time of 35:58, 30+ seconds ahead of the second woman. This was Ford’s last tune up race before her peak race, the Richmond half marathon, in two weeks.
Adam also was in a pack of three at the halfway point, but had to battle one of the guys all of the way to the finish before just pulling ahead on the final straight. Adam finished 8th in a time of 31:58. Results can be found below.
