Cowart finishes 6th at USA Championships

(c) Michael Scott 2011

After qualifying to the finals running an efficient 8:41.40 for 4th place in the prelims, Cowart was ready to compete in the finals at the USA Championships held in Eugene Oregon. The race started and Donnie went to the back and waited patiently for the race to unfold. As the race progressed, so did Cowart as he moved up the field. With four laps to go, Donnie was right where he wanted to be sitting in 6th place. With two laps to go, the leaders took off which strung out the field. Cowart maintained place the rest of the way, finishing 6th in 8:39:13. This was an improvement over last year when Donnie placed 9th at the USA championships. Cowart will continue his 2011 campaign in Europe as he travels with fellow RMR athlete Macklin Chaffee. Results and video can be found below.

RMR sweeps top four spots at Men’s Four Miler

Chris Post (295), Bob Thiele (black jersey), Alec Lorenzoni (shirtless), Thomas Adam (1) in the lead pack

Thomas Adam, Chris Post, Bob Thiele, and Alec Lorenzoni swept the top four spots at the Men’s Four Miler held in RMR’s backyard in Charlottesville, Virginia. The race was very exciting as there were multiple lead changes throughout. Thiele, one of the RMR founders who has limited opportunity to run due to his residency at UVA hospital, made a strong move at two miles and started to open up a gap on the lead pack. Going into the third mile, Adam and Post were able to surge ahead and battled all of the way to the finish line. In the end Adam finished first in 20:37 with Post hot on his heels in 20:38. Thiele and Lorenzoni finished third and fourth in 20:47 and 21:00, respectively. Also competing for RMR was Mike Inge, who ran it more as an uptempo effort as he crossed the line in 25:54 for 37th place. The race was a success as the number of participants almost doubled from the last time the event was put on in December of 2009. Mark Lorenzoni, Dr. Bob Wilder, Joel Hess, Louise Knudson, Vicky Schandevel, and Melissa Rittenhouse were also on hand volunteering their time to support the event which is geared towards raising money for prostate cancer.
